★ First Impressions

✝ VISUAL: link. A tall (about 6'2), gaunt, scruffy man in his late 30s ~ early 40s. Deep red eyes and very thick black hair, styled into short, soft spikes with silver streaks throughout. Chinstrap beard stubble.
✝ FASHION: 1, 2. Favors button-down shirts and slacks in dark, muted colors. Always wears a crooked cross pendant in silver on a cord of leather, a leather cuff on the right wrist, and three rings in black and silver on his right hand.
✝ DEMEANOUR: Blunt, irreverent, and cynical, with a nonchalant disposition and a sometimes playful, but usually abrasive sense of humor. Though he keeps up appearances of never taking anything too seriously, he can be morose and prone to anxiety and depression, and he has a history of alcoholism. Though he is known around Remnant to have a large network of friends and acquaintences in high and low places, in his personal life, Qrow prefers to keep a certain physical and emotional distance from others. Often, he deliberately isolates himself, acting the part of the childish jerk in order to keep others at arm's length.


That being said! Qrow actually has a soft heart and he cares very deeply about people. He even abandoned his home tribe of murderous bandits and outlaws in order to become a professional Huntsman (a skilled fighter and a protector of the people from Creatures of Grimm and other threats). Lurking behind his affect of casual arrogance and swagger is a deeply insecure man who has been made to feel cursed and unwanted for the majority of his life. Those who accept him unconditionally earn his gratitude - as well as his loyalty. He is especially devoted to his family, namely his two teenage nieces.
✝ SOUND: link / new VA. Deep and gruff, with a lazy drawl. Often biting and sarcastic in tone.
✝ SCENT: Forest, leather, and steel. Spicy, woodsy aftershave.
✝ MENTAL INFORMATION: Telepaths do not appear to be a big thing in his world, so he won't have many defenses against one. Expect to find a lot of thinly veiled guilt and feelings of self-loathing in that head of his, but also a large capacity for love and an intense need for purpose and belonging.
✝ MAGICAL INFORMATION:
  • Aura - spiritual energy which trained individuals can manipulate to inflict or deflect damage, boost physical ability, and heal minor injuries. Aura is a limited resource and once "broken," or depleted, the individual's ability to fight and defend themselves is compromised until rested and recharged. Aura users can fight or train with live weapons without receiving serious damage, until an aura break occurs. Especially skilled users like Qrow can manipulate Aura offensively, in pressure wave-like attacks.
  • Semblance - a unique semi-magical ability. Qrow's semblance acts like a bad luck charm, which invites misfortune onto himself and anyone else in the immediate vicinity. Though it can be useful in battle, he cannot control when or how it manifests - unfortunate events strike randomly and without warning, putting allies and enemies alike at risk. The only measure of control Qrow has over his semblance is to amplify it using aura, which can make these mishaps both more likely and more grave in nature. Because of the rejection and bullying he's faced in his past due to what he's called his "curse," Qrow tends to be tight-lipped on the matter of his semblance and only shares the details when necessary. His bad luck is not a secret, but neither does he actively talk about it, instead choosing to keep friends and loved ones at a protective arm's length while never quite explaining why.
  • Transformation - Qrow was gifted with the ability to transform into a common crow at will. This allows him to travel easily and covertly gather information for the Powers That Be. It is not common magic in his world, so the ability is generally kept secret.

✝ COMBAT SKILLS: whatever you call this? (also note the bad luck semblance at work: the wooden beam nearly falling on Ruby; the enemy and himself falling through the roof) Qrow is known as one of the most dangerous Huntsmen on Remnant. He is incredibly quick and acrobatic for his age, sharply observant, and clever enough to use his environment to his advantage in conjuction with his Semblance.

✝ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Sure, but I can't guarantee I'll be any good at writing it. Potential enemies should keep his semblance (see Magical Information) in mind. Any mishaps resulting from his semblance can be negotiated oocly! Feel free to pm with ideas, or if you'd like something retconned.
✝ RELATIONSHIPS: Open to any gender, with his preferences trending towards younger women (20+) and beefy older men (25+). Anything with feelings is likely to be slowburn due to that good ol' emotional damage. Cross-canon and AU loved, hmu! Kinklist. For castmates: open to ship with Clover, Winter, Taiyang, Summer, and Ironwood. Platonic only for Ozpin and Robyn, please.
